Highway at St Cruz blocked by FORCE agitation

OLD GOA: Hundreds of parents from St Cruz constituency poured on to the national highway at Santa Cruz, blocking all vehicular traffic for more than an hour from 9 am onwards, thereby inconveniencing motorists, particularly office-goers on their way to work.

An army bus was also not allowed to pass through for quite a while before the police intervened to allow it through.
SP Serafin Dias, Old Goa PI Krishna Sinari, Agassaim PI Jivba Dalvi along with a large police force were present at the site but were unable to disperse the protestors. It was only after the protestors themselves called off the blockade that the highway reopened for vehicular traffic.
Local MLA, Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate who visited the parents also had to face the ire of the public as they demanded to know why the MoI bill was not passed in the Assembly.
Even though Monserrate tried to convince the parents that the bill has been sent to a select committee, parents were not in a mood to listen and demanded that it should be passed in the current Assembly.
However, Monserrate told them that the prerogative lies with the current government, of which he is not a part. But, he assured that his support is with the parents because it is a genuine demand. “Whenever the bill is introduced in the Assembly, I will support it,” he added. Earlier, he also told the parents that the bill would have been passed when he was the education minister in the then Congress government. “But, someone from within the government scuttled the process,” he clarified.
