PANJIM: Alleging involvement of Russians in drugs, prostitution and other illegal activities at Morjim in Pernem, a right-wing Hindu outfit has petitioned Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar demanding action against these Russians for maligning Goa’s image.
In a memorandum submitted to Parrikar, Hindu Janjagruti Samiti (HJS) has alleged that in the name of tourism, Morjim village is being recognised as ‘Little Russia’ now.
“In Morjim village the names of restaurants, menu-card items, village roads, advertising hoardings etc are either in English or Russian. There is no place here for the local languages such as Konkani or Marathi,” HJS state convenor Manoj Solanki said.
Solanki alleged that disregarding the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) Russians are engaged in many illegal activities in Goa such as drugs, real estate, prostitution etc. He alleged that Russian girls are being sent to Goa to engaged in prostitution for Russian mafia.
An HJS leader also alleged that Russian mafia are active in providing arms and drugs in the name of fake companies in many parts of the country along with Goa. Dangerous international criminals and terrorists feel safe at these places.
Russian mafia are engaged in ‘Havala’ business also. HJS also urged government to initiate immediate steps to curtail what they called Russian monopoly over the coastal belt.
“We cannot deny the possibility of murderous activities in this area if Russians command monopoly,” he said.
HJS has said that it is unfortunate that citizens of Goa who protected their motherland by fighting with the Portuguese, have to fight the Russians now even after 50 years of Liberation.
