MARGAO: MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco has requested the Curtorim sarpanch to convene a gram sabha following a report in the Herald on the Indian Reserve Battalion barracks project in Curtorim.
The MLA has requested the Curtorim VP to convene a gram sabha before the upcoming Budget Session of the Goa Legislative Assembly to discuss the grave issue of transfer of one lakh square metres of Leprosy Hospital land to the Goa Police for setting up of Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) camp.
The MLA recalled that in the past, he along with Curtorim villagers had voiced strong opposition to the setting up of IRB camp.
The representatives and the people of Curtorim have requested the government to cancel the IRB camp plan failing which they have threatened to launch an agitation.
The locals were alerted as some officials had recently begun a survey of the land, which once housed the Leprosy Hospital.
