VASCO: Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has decided to home deliver essential commodities from Saturday.

Each ward will have three shops and each shop to have two volunteers to home deliver essential commodities during the lockdown period.
This was decided at a joint meeting attended by Urban Development Minister Milind Naik, Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, MMC Chief Officer Gaurish Shankhwalkar, Deputy Collector Paresh Faldesai, Police DySP Raju Raut Dessai, Vasco PI Nilesh Rane and all MMC Councillors on Friday.
At the meeting it was decided that every ward Councillor will have one volunteer and every MLA will have twenty volunteers to monitor the supply of essential goods. The shopkeeper will supply goods to houses and volunteers would be assisted by police, if required.
It was also decided that MMC will process all applications for shops in every ward that will be participating in the system.
Minister Naik said that MMC Chairperson and Councillors had informed hime that the system of home deliveing essential goods were not in place. “Therefore, we convened this joint meeting. We have decided that we will supply essential goods every household. The responsibility of this be taken by the shopkeeper and the local councillor,” he said.
“MMC will issue all transit permission immediately through deputy collector’s office. The stock of essential commodities will come to the shops and then it will be supplied subsequently to all. The police will assist the volunteers as an when required and everybody feels that home delivery is the best option as most of the areas are densely populated and only three shops in each ward will operate. This will also help in keeping people inside their houses who are otherwise seen moving out aimlessly during police lockdown,” Naik said.
Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida said that many Vascoaites disliked and opposed the decision of Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant which was to open shops. “Today we have decided to streamline the process of supply of essential goods to residents via home delivery. The joint meeting was convened by Naik. We only want to tell the people not to panic as all the essential commodities will come to your doorstep,” Almeida added.
