MARGAO: There was a late night drama on the national highway passing through Raia on Saturday night when two persons tried to attack commuters with a knife in a fit of anger after a road rage related dispute.
However, members of the public and locals in the vicinity were quick to react and blocked the attempts of these hooligans to attack the commuters.
Not only did they seize the knife, they also seized the two-wheeler being used by them.
The two persons fled in the opposite directions in the locality and escaped the clutches of public.
The people gathered were however extremely annoyed that despite multiple calls, the Maina-Curtorim Police had failed to arrive at the site despite the station being located 500 metres away.
Speaking to the media persons, one Rupesh Naik said that he was going to work when he came across these two persons on the road, allegedly intoxicated and riding rashly.
When he asked them to ride properly, he said one of the two started abusing him verbally and removed a sword while the second person came to hit him.
However, due to the public present, no one was hurt. However, Rupesh’s friend, Priesh Amonkar said he went to the police station but instead of the cops taking action, he received a barrage of questions, one of which was asking why they had started the fight and exchanged bad words.
Thereafter, after some time had passed, Rupesh was dropping a colleague back and passed by the same road but the two persons apparently were waiting for them and were with the sword again.
While Amonkar said they tried to attack one Saba Desai with the sword, Naik questioned why the police had not taken action and if they would only take action if someone had to be murdered.
He further alleged that one of the two persons is a local “goonda” named ‘Seby’, who was allegedly high on ‘ganja’.
The public were still looking out for the two accused and planned on handing over the seized sword and bike to the police.
