MARGAO, JUNE 29
With just a fortnight to go for Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat’s July 15 deadline to revamp Hospicio into a premiere hospital, Health Minister, Vishwajeet Rane on Tuesday made a surprise visit to the hospital to get a first hand account of the ongoing works and to put things in order.
As dirty linen greeted the Health Minister during his rounds of the Hospicio wards, Rane instructed the Hospicio administration to replace the linen on a priority basis. In fact, this is not the first time that the Health Minister has called for replacing the torn linen. During his surprise visit to Hospicio soon after taking over the reigns of office, Rane had found torn and dirty linen on the hospital beds and had directed the hospital administrator to dump the old linen.
During Tuesday’s visit to the hospital, the Health Minister checked the attendance register of the doctors and staff to find out the number of staff reporting for duty. Rane also inquired into the medicine support and the stock available in the hospital.
The Health Minister directed the Hospicio authorities to keep him informed every week on emergency requirements in the hospital.
While reviewing the ongoing civil works carried out by Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation, the Health Minister also inquired into the progress of work of the new Operation Theatre proposed at the hospital.
Before leaving the hospital, the Health Minster went round the wards and had an interaction with the patients to find out the service rendered by the staff and the availability of medicines.
Rane’s surprise visit assumes significance given that the Chief Minister had set July 15 as the deadline to revamp the Hospicio hospital in all respects. Incidentally, this is Vishwajeet Rane’s first visit to Hospicio after the Chief Minister took upon himself the task of effecting a total revamp of the hospital after Congress workers from Margao and Fatorda demanded an improvement in the services.
The Chief Minister, who had been visiting Hospicio every week, over the last one month, had announced that there will be no shortage of medicines, while the PROs will be imparted training to help patients and visitors to the hospital.
