Hot mess: Vasco road forms pothole only a month after repair

VASCO: The road from Vaddem Lake to Martyr’s Memorial in front of Vasco’s KTC bus stand has now become infamous–barely one month after hot-mixing work was carried out to level the road, a huge pothole has formed, posing a hazard to motorists and causing an accident on Sunday.

On Sunday, a two-wheeler rider hit the pothole and lost control of his vehicle, sustaining injuries in the mishap. Following that, locals tried to cover the pothole with hot mix tar, but were not able to improve the situation much. They then erected barricades on the spot to alert other motorists and avoid further accidents, especially during spells of rain.

The road witnesses constant traffic of heavy vehicles and locals were extremely relieved when repair work was undertaken last month. Their relief was short-lived– as soon as the monsoon arrived, the top layer of the road seemed to slough off, and the road is now riddled with potholes .

When contacted, the engineer responsible the damage to the newly-laid road was a result of the sudden change in weather and incessant rainfall of the past week.Another accident was averted on Sunday, when a bus was playing on the road. “The bus narrowly missed the pothole, as the driver was alert and managed to swerve away.
