House full in Sawant cabinet: ‘Family members’ may make way for new family men

Axe may fall on at least two cabinet ministers; Aleixo Sequeira’s inclusion in the Sawant cabinet is highly likely; to replace Ravi Naik, Lobo’s path to cabinet still not cleared; discussion on Digambar will commence with central leadership, including future role; all subject to Central BJP’s nod

PANJIM: There is a house full board outside the Sawant cabinet. But adjustments need to be done to keep the house in order.

Speculations of a cabinet reshuffle are rife as it appears that at least two if not three ministers are likely to be axed from the Pramod Sawant cabinet to accommodate the new defectors.

It is learnt from sources that a deal struck between the eight rebel Congress MLAs to switch sides is that three ministers including Ravi Naik be moved out to accommodate Digambar Kamat, Michael Lobo, and Aleixo Sequeira. However, there are reservations within the BJP against giving a cabinet berth to Lobo, for now, for leaving the BJP and making the BJP lose seats in coastal Bardez.

“For now, the State BJP unit has agreed to the induction of Aleixo Sequeira in the cabinet,” sources said, adding that ‘the cabinet reshuffle might not be too soon.

There is not much clarity on Digambar Kamat’s induction into the cabinet as the former Chief Minister appears to have reservations about working under Sawant. But all of this is subject to discussion with the party’s central leadership.
