House passes Panchayati Raj Amendment Bill

The Goa Assembly on Thursday passed Goa Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Bill, 2009 after re-considerations by the members with revision powers given to district courts.
The Amendment Bill was stalled twice and was referred to the select committee. The Bill went through this time as appropriate amendments were effected.
The Bill was referred to Select Committee after Opposition members during last session in March objected the Amendment Bill on the grounds that powers vested in director of panchayats will be misused. However, the Bill in its new form now gives scope for appeal with revision power vested in district court.
