PANJIM: The State Legislative Assembly on Thursday passed two bills – Goa Members of Legislative Assembly (Removal of Disqualification) Amendment Bill and the Goa Lokayukta (Amendment) Bill 2017.
The Goa Members of Legislative Assembly (Removal of Disqualification) Amendment Bill sought inclusion of certain new offices in the schedule to the Goa Members of Legislative Assembly (Removal of Disqualification) Act, 2005 so that persons holding those offices shall not be disqualified for being chosen as, or for being, a member of the Assembly.
The Goa Lokayukta (Amendment) Bill 2017 amends sub-section (I) of Section 5 to enable the Lokayukta a clear tenure of 5 years in order to ensure the continuity of his work.
The Bill also stated that the upper age limit of 73 years for a Supreme Court judge alone is also removed, so as to have uniform upper age limit for all Lokayuktas and Upa-Lokayuktas.
