BICHOLIM: Heavy rain and strong wind damaged seven houses and a car at Bicholim causing huge damages to property.
According to the available information houses belonging to Krishna Pednekar and Uday Pednekar were damaged causing damages worth Rs 60,000. At Sal, a house belonging to Vasant Raut was damaged because of a tree. At Mulgao, the house of Vasu Morajkar was damaged as a tree fell on the roof causing damages of Rs 25,000.
In similar incidents, the houses of Milind Manerkar from Sal and Chandrakant Gawas from Karpal were also damaged. Another house at Bhamai Pale was also damaged. The estimated damages was about Rsa 2 lakh.
Trees also fell at various places on the road including Surla, Pali, Velgaum, Navelim, Sarmanas and Mulgao causing traffic blockage for several hours. At Mulgao the electricity lines were snapped and people had to go without power.
A car (GA-01 J-1476) parked at Harvalem waterfall was also damaged when a jackfruit tree came crashing down on it.
The water level of Bicholim and Valwanti rivers at Sanquelim rose due to heavy rainfall.
Even though there is heavy rainfall the taps in Bicholim are running dry. As per the sources from the water treatment plant the river water is muddy and the plant is unable to purify the same.
