Panjim: Goa will make compulsory for commercial or residential housing societies with 25 units and above to have automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and advanced paramedics stationed in their campuses, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has said.
“Advanced paramedics should be there in the large housing societies. If an advanced paramedic is there, he or she would be of great advantage to the community living there. We will start training youth above 16 years of age. The students can be from life sciences background and can be trained by 108 personnel. If this gap is bridged then emergency service will be able to work in a better and more efficient manner. We will train members of Self Help Groups (SHGs) through the Women and Child Development Department. Having paramedics should be a permanent feature,” Rane said during a press conference on Friday.

He said a notification will be issued by the Health and Town and Country Planning (TCP) departments to this effect.
Rane said the government is considering changing the requirements for granting occupancy to housing projects.
The Minister said the Health Department and the Ministry of Health are working to teach Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to all citizens, with a focus on students over 16 years of age and Self Help Groups, among others.
Timely emergency response can be achieved by creating awareness of this life-saving ability, he said.
