Dessai, who was the chairperson when the Ruby Residency building collapsed recalled how the incident literally brought the functioning of CMC to a standstill but lamented that CMC and the government has not learnt its lessons.
“I never saw any activity or help from the builder to the people on the day the building collapsed. They ran from the site with their families instead of helping those who suffered due to the collapse and today they are busy constructing at Nagarcem and Devabag. Bharat Developers were black listed by the Goa Government. It’s not yet known whether they have been cleared from the issue,” Dessai said.
He questioned why no government agency has taken cognizance of this or has questioned the builders about these activities.
“It makes me wonder why the agencies that were blaming the builders at the time of the incident are quiet on the issue now,” Dessai said. He further alleged that the builders have the backing of politicians, government officials and muscle power.
Dessai added that the people still wanted to know how laws were bypassed and how the RCC consultant and architect’s technical submissions were manipulated when the builders were trying to get various clearances for Ruby Residency building that collapsed.
