Human rights commission seeks report from Socorro Panchayat

The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of media reports concerning the eviction notice issued to the family of an accused in a sexual abuse case involving a six-year-old girl. The Commission referred to reports published in O Heraldo and other newspaper organisations on December 25, which raised concerns over possible human rights violations.

After examining the reports, the GHRC directed the Secretary of the Village Panchayat of Socorro, located in Sabnis Valley, Porvorim, to submit a detailed reply. The Panchayat has been asked to explain the circumstances under which the eviction notice was issued.
