PORVORIM: The last day of carnival celebrations in the State saw hundreds of people from various parts of Bardez taluka converging at Mapusa to witness the carnival parade on Tuesday evening.
The carnival parade was flagged off by Aldona MLA Glen Ticlo in the presence of the Mapusa Municipal Council Chairman Sandeep Falari.
According to the Mapusa Carnival Committee, 60 floats paraded the streets of Mapusa showcasing various themes ranging from customs and traditions, environment, wild life, village life, etc.
The parade started at the Mapusa Milagres Church and culminated near the Bodgshwar temple later in the evening.
While seven floats in the traditional category evoked good response from the huge crowd, the 11-odd club and institutional floats also entertained the crowd.
The huge turnout to witness the parade led to people filling both sides of the street, making it difficult for the floats to pass along the route.
DySP Mahesh Gaonker, Police Inspector Tushar Vernekar and Police Traffic Inspector Roy Pereira and other police officials maintained security and traffic arrangements during the parade.
Curchorem correspondent adds: A large number of revelers from Quepem and surrounding areas witnessed the Carnival float parade at Quepem on Tuesday.
Quepem MLA Babu Kavlekar flagged off the parade near the Quepem police station in presence of Velim MLA Benjamin Silva, Varca Sarpanch Crosly Charlton Lourenco, Quepem Municipal Council Chairperson Dayesh Naik, Vice-Chairperson Camilo Simoes, Organising President Cathy Fernandes and other dignitaries.
The Carnival floats parade began near the Quepem police station and culminated at Quepem market, after going around the municipal garden.
“The Carnival parade was organized by Quepem Carnival Committee under the banner of Navyug Vikas Manch (NVM) without any financial support from the government” informed Cathy Fernandes.
Victor Hugo Gomes, Karishma Alvares and Silvia Fernandes were the judges at the parade. Earlier, Lawry Travasso and his group entertained the gathering.
