I-T raid at Aquem-based hospital complex

MARGAO: State Income tax officials today raided the premises of a Margao-based Hospital in Aquem on Monday.

MARGAO: State Income tax officials today raided the premises of a Margao-based Hospital in Aquem on Monday. 
The raid which began at 5 am continued for over 18 hours till midnight. 
The raid assumes significance due to the current demonetisation move by the Central government over Rs 500 and 1000 currency notes. 
A team of 5 officials attached to the Panjim and Margao offices including Assistant Commissioner Shaan Navaz, Balu Nagve and Income Tax officer, Pushparaj K V and others conducted the raid.
During the secret operation even the number plates of the two Income Tax department vehicles were removed. The Assistant Commissioner, who arrived in the afternoon, checked on the status and later left.
Sources informed that the raid reportedly happened in connection of alleged gold purchases and the officials confiscated huge amount of gold during the raid. The panchanama formalities were still on till late night. Four valuers from Belgaum were also roped in for valuations of the seized gold.
Meanwhile, one of the officials confirmed that the raid was in connection with the gold purchases.
