PANJIM: Raids by the Income Tax (I-T) department continued on Saturday, with reports confirming that gold and cash stored in the walls of a premises owned by prominent city based doctor Dr Kedar, were recovered.
Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, I-T department has been conducting raids across the country including in Goa to unearth unaccounted income.
Sources confirmed that during a raid late Saturday evening, a team of seven I-T officials raided the hospital and residence of a prominent doctor and seized cash and gold worth lakhs of rupees, which was hidden in the walls of the premises.
A team of 25 I-T officials are currently conducting a series of raids in the State. Earlier this week, acting on a tip-off, a raid on a person staying in a hotel in Panjim had led to seizure of Rs 96.45 lakh in cash along with some gold and diamond studded jewellery.
On Friday, offices of three leading mining firms were raided by I-T sleuths to uncover black money. The media office of Fomento was also raided. The officials had also raided the residences of the owners of the mining companies.
