MARGAO: As Mickky Pacheco surrendered, hale and hearty, dropped into the heart of Margao and walked up to the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Additional Court at Comba- Margao amidst the traffic chaos of the Margao fair, everything seemed to be a blinder for the clueless Goa police.
The cops have repeatedly told the court that they have done a lot but can’t find the Nuvem legislator who quit as RDA Minister after the court pronounced him guilty in the slapping case and subsequently absconded.
“I came by road and not by flight as I didn’t want to be nabbed at an airport and look like a criminal. I drove from Delhi to surrender in the court in Goa,” explained Mickky while speaking to the Herald exclusively while patiently waiting with Viola, his wife, in the courtroom.
It’s baffling how he drove 1,890kms, passed state borders and check-posts, especially at Goa and moved into the state, unnoticed as he claims. Also it cannot be said if Mickky arrived today itself or a few days back, since he changed his Facebook Display Picture on May 21.
But the fact lies here. After a series of robberies and burglaries in Colva – Benaulim in the last few days, Colva PI Uttam Raut Dessai got transferred in the midst of the Mickky search and PI Braz Menezes replaced him, asserted PI Cl Patil from Margao in the courtroom while speaking to journalists.
PI Braz with no reason at all has not reported for duty and has passed his 10-day window period to take over. Since it has lapsed, the home department has to now appoint someone else on duty and till then, the post lies vacant and the Colva Police station is manned by PSI’s with no expertise to solve burglaries or to trace the absconding Mickky.
“I am given additional charge of Colva Police station, besides my jurisdiction of Cuncolim. I have no clue in this search matter. I was summoned in the court to escort Mickky to Sada jail and hence I have come,” asserted PI Ram Asare.
The cops were truly unaware. The Colva PSI Ritesh Tari, Margao PI CL Patil who has just taken over and PI Ram Asare were all summoned along with their battery of cops by the court to arrest Mickky after he surrendered while no one was aware of his whereabouts in the state at least for today.
Eyebrows are being raised to ask if the police station’s PI post was kept vacant to not search for Mickky. Only the Chief Minister is answerable or can answer.
