PANJIM: As if the current International Film Festival of India (IFFI) had not had its share of troubles, on Friday a delegate filed a complaint with the police that an “unknown” person slapped him in a movie theatre because he had asked the man to stop the repeated use of his ringing phone.
Police sources said preliminary investigations show that the person who allegedly slapped the delegate could have been the son of a high-ranking DFF official; though the delegate has not named any person in the FIR.
Sources said that while a film was being screened, a phone rang and the person answered it and held a conversation. As this disturbed the delegate he asked the man to maintain some decorum and switch off the phone. This suggestion was taken very derisively and the phone was waved in front of the delegate. After sometime the phone rang again and there was another conversation held. This irritated the delegate who threatened to report the man for speaking on the phone.
At this the young man turned around and slapped the delegate. The shocked delegate did not know where to turn especially after learning (allegedly) that the man was the son of a government servant.
