PANJIM: For the first time in the history of the International Film Festival India (IFFI), this year’s edition is all set to see a separate section on Goan films.
The Directorate of Film Festivals (DFF) and the Ministry for Information and Broadcasting (I&B) has accepted a request from the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) to this effect.
Vice-Chairman of ESG, Vishnu Wagh told Herald that, “the DFF and I&B ministry has accepted our strong appeal for a separate section on Goan films”. DFF is also allowing ESG to Curate this section on its own. Wagh said a committee would soon be appointed to assist this section on Goan films.
It was also disclosed that the section could include both Konkani and Marathi films produced during the last one year. The ESG vice-chairman said he expected at least six to seven Goan films to form a part of the Goan section at the 44th IFFI-Goa 2013.
Wagh said there was an appeal from various sections of film producers and artists in the State to have more Goan films at IFFI this year. “This special section is being created by ESG and will form an exclusive part of the international film festival,” he said.
Meanwhile, road shows focussing on film culture will kick-start Monday from the INOX to all parts of Goa. Likewise, radio and video campaigns at all INOX theatres in the country will commence next week.
“Through this initiative we hope to enhance the registration of delegates. As on date 4000 have registered,” the ESG vice-chairman said.
The ESG is expecting about 13,000 delegates this year.
With the Lifetime achievement award being presented to a Czech, the ESG is planning to invite the Czech Ambassador to India as a special State guest for IFFI, Wagh disclosed.
Wagh also said there would be a special art exhibition held by ESG and Beeja with paintings showcasing the 100 years of Indian cinema.
The section on Goan films may include both Konkani and Marathi films produced during the last one year… at least 6 to 7 Goan movies will form a part of this section at the film festival
