BICHOLIM: Despite opposition to the IIT project from Sattari locals, there is a section of people who have come out in support of the project claiming that it will lead to the taluka’s development.
Through a video shared with the media, Chandan Parab, an architect from Bicholim, has strongly supported the move by claiming that such institutions should come up in every State.

“The project will be first step towards developing the State into an educational hub. It will have socio-economic impact on the hinterland,” Parab claimed.
He supported the project highlighting several documents of Regional Plan quoting Charles Correa wherein he had supported IIT project a decade ago.
He informed that scientist Dr Raghunath Mashelkar supported Goa as educational and research hub. “If mining is phased out there is a need for an alternative in the hinterland which should be proposed now. This project is the need of the hour to weed out unemployment from the village. This project will create a culture of higher education in Goa,” Parab claimed.
“It’s a misconception that this project is just for the rich, but this is totally wrong as when such project comes up there is employment of all sorts,” he said and urged the people from Valpoi not to get carried away by false propaganda by some people from the coastal belt.
“The project is needed for the prosperity of the State and also from the point of view of research which will benefit the entire nation,” Parab added.
