PANJIM: Mahila Congress Goa desk in-charge Netta D’Souza on Friday said that in the absence of Home Minister Manohar Parrikar, who is undergoing medical treatment in USA, there is no one to protect women in Goa.
Addressing media persons, D’Souza said that as per media reports from April to May end, there have been 11 rape cases registered in the State, which is of great concern. “But unfortunately, there is no one to protect them today. With due respect to the Home Minister, who is ailing, there is no one to ensure safety of women in the State,” she stated.

She announced that State Mahila Congress will launch a toll-free helpline number for women in distress within a fortnight. “Whether there is a government or not, Mahila Congress will always be there to fight atrocities on women. We will stand by the victims and ensure justice is delivered,” D’Souza said.
The Congress leader said that any woman, who is a victim of domestic violence, rape, molestation, or other injustice, should contact them and they will take up their fight.
Further, stating that women play an important role in the political set up now days, D’Souza said their wing is firm on the demand for 33 percent reservation for women in Parliament and State Assemblies. “Our demand is across party lines,” she said.
