In all-time high, South Goa adds 11,000 first-time voters to electoral rolls

Voters in 18-19 year age group now form 1.5% of total voters, up from 0.67%

MARGAO: The revised electoral roll for 2024 has been released, revealing a notable addition of nearly 11,000 voters in the age group of 18-19 years in South Goa district, marking the highest increase compared to previous years. On Saturday, the South Goa District Collector’s Office distributed the final electoral roll to political parties in Margao.

According to Additional Collector Dipak Desai, an e-electoral roll is available for the public. He highlighted that due to the dedicated efforts of a team of officers, they achieved a percentage of 1.5 for voters in the age group between 18-19 years, a significant improvement from the previous 0.67 percent. “During the exercise carried out in the year, nearly 22,000 applications for new voters were received by the office. What is interesting is that we have managed to enroll 11,000 new voters in the  18-19 year age group, which has historically had a lower ratio. This accomplishment is attributed to the dedication of special officers and the team diligently performing their duties,” stated Desai.

He added that out of the 21 constituencies in South Goa, Priol constituency will now belong to North Goa district. “Presently, we have 6,22,391 voters in South Goa, including the Priol constituency,” said the Additional Collector.
