MARGAO: In a bid to highlight what Comunidades are about, the problems they are facing and what can be done to preserve these ancestral lands, the Goa Ganvkari Components Fellowship is organising an awareness programme in Margao on Saturday.
The ‘Comunidade Awareness Fellowship’ will be held at Pope John Paul II Complex, near the BM Service Station, Margao, on Saturday from 5.30 pm onwards.
There will be ten facilitators for the fellowship who will share their knowledge with the audience. They will also clear doubts through a question-and-answer session that will be held later on. The ten facilitators who will speak at the meeting are Rama Velip, Constancio Mascarenhas, Fr George Quadros, Elsa Fernandes, Fr Visitacao Monteio, Sigmund De Souza, Rui Gama, Jack Mascarenhas and Sanan Pereira.
The speakers will describe the role played by Comunidades in society, explain the Code of the Comunidade and also talk about what Comunidades were like in the past and how they have changed over the years. There will also be a discussion on the steps Ganvkaris need to take to add teeth to the system so that the spirit of Comunidades can be revived.
The speakers will also stress how the government has been acquiring Comunidade land for cheap, and the methodology to stop this. There will also be a discussion on mechanised farming to revive agricultural outputs on Comunidade land.
