VASCO: The Goa Gaur Banjara community has put forth their demand before NRI Commissioner Adv Narendra Sawaikar for including their community into the existing SC/ST Commission or to set up a new panel especially for migrants from various communities, who have permanently settled in Goa.
Former South Goa MP Sawaikar assured to hold discussion on the demand. Large numbers of people from Goa Banjara community across Goa was gathered at Ravindra Bhavan, Baina, here, to celebrate 281st Jayanti Utsav Celebration of Sant Shree Sevalal Maharaj.
Several cultural programmes, meritorious students and persons excelling in various fields were felicitated by Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida and NRI Commissioner.
During the function, the compere, who is the prominent figure from Banjara community in Goa, put forth their demand before NRI Commissioner Sawaikar to either include Banjara community in the SC/ST Commission or to specially set up a new commission for the migrant communities wherein the Banjaras could be a part of.
However, Sawaikar agreed to have a discussion over this demand.
In his address, Sawaikar urged the community to take maximum benefits of government schemes and assured his support to the community.
The Vasco MLA said, “He is making all efforts to help the community.”
