Income Certificate creates hassles for ration card holders

CALANGUTE: Ration card holders along the Calangute coastal belt are facing difficulties in obtaining food security cards (FSC) as a few fair-price shops have demanded that they submit an income certificate (IC) from the Bardez Mamlatdar office.

The ration card holders, especially from Candolim, cannot avail government schemes, like ‘Griha Aadhar’ without the FSC due to the shop owners’ adamant attitude. The shop owners do not accept the applications in Form B without the income certificate, which requires a couple of days running to and from the Mamlatdar office. Additionally, the applicants are forced to make affidavits for the IC.
“The fair-price owners are demanding IC issued by the Mamlatdar office, but for what?  When someone applies for IC, he/she is naturally forced to conceal information about the income to become eligible for the scheme. No government scheme can be availed with correct facts and figures. The submission of IC is a waste of the ration card holders’ time and energy,” said local Rama Kandolkar.
Another local Maria D’Souza said, “It is really surprising to know that the one availing government schemes stands to benefit more in terms of filling and submitting the application forms for the FSC. It should have been the other way round as the government tends to benefit if people are not availing schemes.”
