PANJIM: South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha today alleged that increase in school timings by half-an-hour will affect the performance of students and make ‘intelligent students’ lazy.
Speaking at a press conference in his party office Tuesday, he termed the new system as ‘punishment’.
“How will the students be kept busy unless and until all schools have proper infrastructure like playgrounds in place? This is not only punishment but also making bright students lazy,” he said.
“The intelligent students during the extra time would be mischievous and would disturb the class. If they have no work, it will be devils workshop,” he commented while claiming that government should consider going back to original school timings.
The RTE Act was implemented two years ago but it was only last month that its first provision of extending school timings was implemented. Sardinha has appealed to the government to act as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the MP has expressed ‘shock’ over previous government’s tenders being rejected by the Manohar Parrikar-led government. He demanded the government should instead probe the matter and bring to book those responsible.
“If there was anything wrong, the government should inquire and bring officers to task…by re-tendering the works, there is not only time escalation but also cost escalation. This will lead to corruption and nepotism,” he said.
