PANJIM: The National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) principal bench in Delhi Tuesday withdrew the bailable warrant issued against former State principal secretary for mines R K Varma after director Mines and Geology Prasanna Acharya appeared before NGT and assured to file a detailed affidavit in response to the illegal mining petition filed by an NGO against a mining company by August 8.
The NGT, which had withheld the warrant of Varma for a period of one week directing him to depute an officer to personally attend the hearing along with relevant information, on Tuesday, withdrew its warrant after Acharya appeared before the Court in person. Meanwhile, Varma has been relieved from the service of the State government.
NGT in its order on Tuesday has said that the learned counsel for the State of Goa has appeared and that he is in the process of getting full instruction to file the report. He (Acharya) further submits that the report to be filed in Original Application filed by Goa Paryavaran Savrakshan Sangharsh Samitee Vs MSHL Nathurmal & Ors may be treated as common report for all other similar application.
However, the applicant objected to the same on the ground that in each case the size and specification of the mine are different. Therefore, the report cannot be of common nature.
The application will now be heard on August 21.
