PONDA: Ponda Police on Tuesday arrested two laboratory attendants from the Kamaxi Homeopathic College, Shiroda, in connection with the nine cadavers that were discarded at an unused crematorium in Karai-Shiroda.
It may be recalled that Ponda Police had recovered nine cadavers on July 6 and later registered a case against the two laboratory attendants, Benedito Fernandes and Devidas Borkar, the principal including the president and the management of Kamaxi Homeopathic College.
The accused Devidas Borkar and Benedito Fernandes have been released on bail, informed police.
Incidentally, GPCC President Subhash Shirodkar is the chairman of Shivgram Education Society which runs a number of educational institutes including Kamaxi Homeopathic College.
Earlier, Ponda Police had not mentioned Shirodkar’s name as police claimed that they had had to ascertain if Shirodkar was the president of the college management.
However, according to Ponda Police, documents obtained from the college revealed that Shirodkar is the president of the managing committee. When asked if Shirodkar would be arrested in the case, Ponda Police said investigations are still in progress.
Meanwhile, a team from Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) visited the site where the nine cadavers were discarded. According to sources, an inspection report will be submitted to Ponda Police.
A report from GoaMedical College on the autopsy of the cadavers is also awaited.
