Fresh from being named in the India Men’s U-19 Multi-Day squad for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, Goa’s young bowling all-rounder Venkata Chigurupati has expressed his determination to make the most of the opportunity and work towards earning a place in In dia’s squad for the U-19 World Cup. Speaking to the media at the Goa Cricket Association (GCA) in Por vorim on Monday, Venkata described his selection as a dream come true and a reward for the hard work he has put in over the past few years. “It is a dream come true to play for the country because every cricketer practises with the aim of wearing the India jersey. When I finished the sea son with 35 wickets and 280 runs, I felt I had given myself a chance, but getting selected is a very special feeling,” said Venkata. The talented youngster earned his place in the national squad af ter an impressive domestic season, emerging as one of Goa’s standout performers in the Cooch Behar Tro phy and Vinoo Mankad Trophy.
His consistent contributions with both bat and ball played a key role in Goa’s campaign and caught the attention of the national selectors. Venkata credited the Goa Cricket Association, along with his coaches and support staff, for helping him develop into a better cricketer. “The facilities and opportunities provided by the Goa Cricket Asso ciation have helped me improve immensely. The coaches and man agement have always supported and encouraged me. I am thankful to everyone who has played a role in my journey so far,” he said. Even as he prepares for his first assignment in India colours, Venkata remains focused on the bigger goals ahead. “My immediate objective is to perform well in Sri Lanka and cement my place in the India U-19 team. The Asia Cup and other important tournaments are coming up, and ulti mately, I want to earn a place in the U-19 World Cup squad,” he added. The young pacer also spoke about preparing for conditions in Sri Lanka and adapting his game to suit dif ferent surfaces. “I am working on my bowling and preparing for dry wickets.

Congratulating the youngster, Goa Cricket Association Secretary Tulsidas Shetye said Venkata’s selection was a proud moment for Goa cricket and reflected the progress being made in nurturing young talent in the state. “Venkata has earned this opportunity through hard work, discipline and consistent performances. We are de lighted to see a Goa player represent India at this level and hope this is the beginning of many more achievements for him,” he said. GCA Treasurer Sayed Abdul Majid said the youngster’s achievement would inspire aspiring cricketers across Goa to pursue their dreams with dedication and commitment. With the India call-up now a reality, Venkata’s focus shifts to the tour of Sri Lanka, where he hopes to take an other significant step in what is shaping up to be a promis ing cricketing career.
