The Indian Navy has inducted INS Malvan, the second indigenously built Mahe-class Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), further strengthening India’s maritime security and coastal defence capabilities.
Built by Cochin Shipyard Limited, INS Malvan boasts more than 80 per cent indigenous content, reflecting India’s commitment to self-reliance in defence production under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The warship carries the motto “Silent Claws,” symbolising its stealth and effectiveness in anti-submarine operations.

Designed for deployment in shallow coastal waters, INS Malvan is equipped with advanced sonar systems, lightweight torpedoes and rocket launchers, enabling it to detect, track and neutralise hostile submarines with precision.
The commissioning of the vessel marks another milestone in the Indian Navy’s modernisation programme, enhancing its ability to secure the nation’s coastline and safeguard strategic maritime interests through indigenous defence technology.
