for Goa Medical College (GMC) assuring students that the buildings would be ready in time for the new academic year.
Speaking at the inauguration of 12 new ambulances, D’Souza, who holds the health portfolio, said, “We have received assurances from GSIDC that the infrastructure would be in place in time. The lecture hall will be ready by September 1, just in time for the beginning of the academic year. The auditorium we are told will be ready by October.”
The Medical Council of India (MCI) had reluctantly given permission to an increase in 50 seats to the existing 100 MBBS seats as they raised questions of the infrastructure that has long been delayed. Though no official permissions have been granted, MCI and the Union Health Ministry have on their websites listed GMC as having being granted the extension in seats.
Though the first round of admissions has been completed, the selection for the provisional 50 seats will be done from July 27 to 29.
