Internet failure causes chaos over electricity bill payment at Margao

Clerk initially refused to accept physically showing non-availability of power stamp; JE solves the problem

MARGAO: Internet failure at the electricity bill payment counter at Margao Electricity Department ensued huge chaos as angry consumers, including senior citizens, who spent the whole morning standing in the queue demanded the payments be accepted physically. The clerk refused to accept physically due to the apparent non-availability of a rubber stamp.

“I have been running around this office since morning. If there is no Internet there has to be an alternate solution. I am diabetic and have other health issues, if something happens to me who will be held responsible,” asked a 70-year-old man.

The clerk directed the consumers to go and meet the Junior Engineer on the third floor. “Why can’t the JE come down and meet the senior citizen? They are asking us to go to Fatorda and elsewhere, but the situation is the same,” said a consumer.

The JE said that the receipts are received online and hence they do not keep rubber stamps.

JE finally agrees to accept bill payments in physical form. “I received a message now stating that the stamp is available, that’s why bills can be accepted in physical form,” he said.
