PANJIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar cleared 15 projects worth Rs 885 crore in investment, which has the potential to provide 2133 jobs to locals, on Wednesday.
The projects were cleared at the 14th meeting of the Investment Promotion Board (IPB) chaired by Parsekar.
Seven of the projects cleared were industrial in nature, while eight were in hospitality sector. There were 30 projects on the table for clearance. However, the IPB held back clearance for 15 projects for various reasons.
Parsekar said that IPB cleared the proposal of Glenmark Pharma which intends to expand its manufacturing facility for tablets from the existing 1000 million per annum to 4000 million per annum. There would also be an increase in the capacity to manufacture capsules. There will be an increase in the built up area from 3687.31 sq mtrs to 8516.48 sq mtrs. There will also be an increase in water requirement from 186 m3 per day to 314 m3 in addition to power requirement. This facility is based in Bardez.
Tienda Advanced Materials will set up a manufacturing unit of at Verna Industrial estate. A sea food processing unit at Sanguem Industrial Estate by C K Agro Product Pvt Ltd is expected to provide employment to 75 people.
Among the hospitality projects cleared on Wednesday, two are by the GTDC — one is at Brittona and the second at Reis Magos. The project in Brittona is expected to employ 165 people and the second one around 700 people. A four star luxury hotel is expected in Pernem at Chopdem by VRP Landbase Private Limited. With a project cost of Rs 56 crore and is expected to employ around 125 people.
A wedding destination and eco-resort called “The Theatre of Dreams” at Quepem has been cleared and will provide employment for around 48 people. In addition to the Blue Spring Eco Resort in Quepem, a 60-room luxury resort in Bardez was cleared but a 5-Star service apartments by Models Construction Pvt Ltd at Marra Pilerne was deferred.
In addition the passenger ropeway project between Panjim and Reis Magos covering a distance of 1240 mtrs over River Mandovi has been cleared. GTDC Chairman Nilesh Cabral said he would be willing to go and be part of the presentation at the CCP and convince them that it was safe and it would not result in any congestion.
When asked if this IPB meeting would be the last one before the elections, the chief minister said that he may call for another one since no dates were announced for the elections.
The held back projects are: a sports goods retail outlet in Goa Velha by Decathlon Sports India Private Ltd; IT park at Tiswadi by the Jai Bhuvan Builders; warehousing project by the Chowgule Brothers; 5-star service apartment resort by Models Construction Private Limited; convention centre and hotel in Mandrem by Riveira Construction Pvt Limited; 7-Star luxury resort by Mandrem Hotels Pvt Ltd; a 3-Star hotel in Calangute by Elliot Goa Resorts Pvt Ltd; and a restaurant in Calangute by Parmaz Hospitality Pvt Ltd.
