The Indian Premier League 2027 auction will be held in Goa in December, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed on Wednesday, bringing the player recruitment event to the coastal state for the first time in the upcoming cycle.
Saikia said the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had decided to stage the auction in Goa after the previous edition was hosted at overseas locations. The IPL auction has recently travelled outside India, with Saudi Arabia, Dubai and Abu Dhabi among the venues used for previous events.

“This year, after hosting the IPL auction in three foreign locations — Saudi Arabia, Dubai and Abu Dhabi last year — we are going to host it in Goa in the month of December,” Saikia told ANI.
The 2027 auction will be the final mini-auction of the current IPL cycle, which runs from 2023 to 2027. The exact date has not yet been announced, although the event is expected to take place during the second week of December.
The BCCI has also not finalised the retention deadline for franchises. In previous seasons, teams have generally been required to submit their retention lists towards the end of November, setting the stage for the auction pool to take shape.
There have already been several major changes among IPL franchises ahead of the 2027 season. Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants completed a high-profile player exchange involving Rishabh Pant and Kuldeep Yadav, with Pant returning to Delhi while Kuldeep moved to Lucknow.
Chennai Super Kings have also made a major change to their coaching setup, appointing former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan as head coach. The move comes as franchises begin reshaping their squads and support staff ahead of the next season.
Kolkata Knight Riders are also expected to enter the 2027 season with a leadership decision to make after Ajinkya Rahane retired from international and Indian cricket. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians appointed Zubin Bharucha as their director of performance.
The defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, will head into the new season after securing consecutive IPL titles in 2025 and 2026. Their back-to-back triumphs have added another layer of interest to the upcoming auction as franchises look to strengthen their squads.
The 2027 IPL season itself is expected to begin towards the end of March. The league had earlier announced a tournament window from March 14 to May 30, 2027, but the final schedule has not been confirmed.
Saikia indicated after the BCCI annual general meeting that the season would begin towards the end of March. The board is yet to announce the complete schedule.
With Goa now confirmed as the auction venue, attention will shift to the retention rules, player releases and the purse available to each franchise. Those decisions will determine the composition of the auction pool before teams gather in December to complete their final preparations for IPL 2027.
