The opposition has accused CEC Gyanesh Kumar of bypassing the other Election Commissioners and alleged systematic manipulation of electoral rolls and demanding his arrest. South Goa MP Viriato Fernandes said the two other Election Commissioners raised objections 14 times in 10 months over decisions allegedly taken without their consultation. In Goa, Congress claimed 97 voter names were deleted and alleged that around 1.3 lakh names have been removed from electoral rolls ahead of the election. The party called the alleged irregularities an assault on democracy, while the Election Commission’s response to the claims remains awaited.
