PORVORIM: Nearly five days after Indian Reserve Battalion’s (IRB) head constable Kishor Shirodkar’s body was found in mysterious circumstances at Porvorim, the local police station has registered a case of murder and two suspects have come under the scanner.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar informed the House on Tuesday that the police have registered a case under Sections 302 for murder and 34 for common intention of the Indian Penal Code, following a complaint lodged by the deceased’s mother and wife.
“A murder case has been registered and since the matter is under investigation, it will not be appropriate to make further statements,” he said replying to a Calling Attention Motion moved by Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte.
Shirodkar, who was attached with IRB-1 and was on sick leave since July 3 and was found dead in the compound of National Institute of Open School on July 20. Porvorim police had first registered a case of unnatural death, stating it was leaving the case open for probing the murder angle as well.
The deceased’s wife and mother approached the police with a complaint alleging that two relatives could be involved in the offence. During a brief discussion on the motion, Sopte pointed out that a plastic covering Shirodkar’s mouth, torn shirt, blood stains and the fallen two-wheeler indicates homicide. “I urge to take up the case seriously,” he said.
