CURCHOREM: Supporting the call given by the Goa Mining People’s Front (GMPF) Curchorem market remained closed baring clinics, pharmacies, banks, post office and schools which functioned as usual.
Earlier the rally which commenced from Tilamol junction went to Quepem market then to Sanguem and entered Curchorem via Shivaji circle before proceeding to Dharbandora via Sanvordem tisk.
Speaking to Herald Curchorem Market Association President Rocha Pereira said they kept all the establishments closed voluntarily to support the mining dependents as their livelihood has been affected for a very long time due to closure of mining activities. “Markets in mining belts areas are also hit very much as people controlled their spending as they are not sure about their job and therefore Goa government much take the initiative to resume mining at the earliest instead of blaming the Centre.” said Pereira.
Curchorem MLA and Power Minister Nilesh Cabral said that he learnt that everybody in the market willingly closed their shops/establishments to support GMPF and it went without any untoward incidents. It shows that the mining should re-start immediately.” said Cabral
Curchorem PSI Ravindra Dessai said that no untoward incident was reported and everything went peacefully.
