PANJIM: The Goa government has decided to upgrade Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) operational across the State through the public private partnership (PPP) mode.
The decision was taken on Wednesday by the cabinet. The upgradation will be done under a Central Government scheme. Zuari Agro-chemicals Ltd has been appointed as the industry partner under the scheme for upgradation.
The cabinet note states that the proposal was under consideration of the Finance Department since 2014. “Now the PPP cell of the State government has given no objection to the proposal,” it said adding that the Law and Finance departments have accorded approval.
In another decision, the cabinet granted approval for the appointment of 21 vocational instructors on contract basis in different ITIs for a period of one year. “The decision was taken considering a huge jump in number of students applying for ITI courses,” Urban Development Minister Francis D’Souza told Herald. This year 700 additional students have joined ITI, he said.
