It’s changing for the better at the Panjim RTO

Delivery of services has improved; Polite staff attending to the people; No agents to be seen

PANJIM: The service delivery system at the Regional Transport Office (RTO), Panjim, has changed for the better following the Herald report on malpractices and corruption in the system.
It is learnt from reviews of people who have visited the RTO office earlier and returned now, that delivery of all public services have improved and staff who were not attending to the people are now behaving politely with them.
Herald spoke to a few people at random at the RTO office to gather their experience at the office. “Now I have noticed systematic queues at all the counters and the agents are not even seen in the vicinity of the premises,” one person told Herald.
Another person who had visited the office for a driving licence had a similar experience. He said that driving licences were issued on the same day while this did not happen earlier.
“All the staff at the RTO office are now seen in their places attending to the people in the absence of agents. Otherwise agents used to do their work bypassing queues whereas people in queues had to wait hours at each counter,” a lady said.
Following the news report in Herald, the Goa Lokayukta has taken suo motu cognizance and initiated an inquiry into the malpractices at the RTO office.
The Transport Director has also initiated an inquiry and asked the Tiswadi ADT to hold an inquiry and submit the report.
