PANJIM: Goa retains the trend of breaking the record of voter turnout to its earlier assembly election.
The figures which are released by Chief Electoral Officer of Goa on Sunday afternoon reveals that state recorded the highest ever voting percentage of 82.23% of recently held assembly election as compared to 81.73% of previous March 2012 assembly elections.
The final figures which were gathered on Saturday evening were updated by the CEO office on Sunday after receiving the figures from all the constituencies. The voting was underway on Saturday till late evening which became difficult to get exact details, CEO’s office said.
The voting percentage of the general election 1994 was 71.20%, 1999- 65.00%, 2002-68.75%, 2007-70.51 whereas in the year 2012-81.73%.
In North, Sanquelim constituency is the highest to record maximum number of voting percentage of 89.14% whereas in South the maximum voting recorded in Priol constituency with 89.24%.
It may be recalled that Goa has recorded the total 11.10 lakh voter list of which total 8,98,438 voters cast their votes on February 4. In North Goa, of the total 5,11,033 voters 423741 cast their votes whereas in South Goa of the 5,99,060 voters 4,74,697 voters cast their votes. North Goa voting percentage comes to 84.31 whereas in South Goa it is 80.47.
Electoral office had enrolled 49,921 new voters whereas 26,731 voters have been deleted in the process of enrolment of the election of 2017.
