PANJIM: Janita Madkaikar, wife of Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar was elected unopposed Sarpanch of Old Goa panchayat.
The panchayat had passed a no-confidence motion against Nilkanth Bhomkar last week days after he had been elected Sarpanch.
The no-confidence motion against Bomkar was moved within 24 hours of his election to the post on June 19. Five of nine panch members voted against Bhomkar during the no-confidence motion on June 24. Prior to that on June 19, five members had voted for Bhomkar defeating Janita.
This is the first panchayat to change the sarpanch by passing a no confidence motion after sarpanchas to 175 village panchayats were elected on June 19.
