CANACONA: Canacona police and the special SST team intercepted a Margao bound Karnataka vehicle and confiscated silver and other jewellry estimated worth over Rs 46 lakh.
The police have taken custody of the vehicle and have handed over the confiscated jewelry to Commercial Tax officials and also three occupants of the car.
Police suspect that the jewelry was brought in to lure the voters. Canacona PI Philomena Costa said that the car had left from Mangalore and was Margao bound when the team intercepted it. The police found five bags in the vehicle which contained 57 kgs of Silver and yellow metal jewelry. The vehicle was intercepted at 11 am on Friday.
Costa said, “Upon investigation it was known that the occupants had the bill and the permit of Mangalore to Udupi, however they did not have a permit to transport the jewellery from Udupi to Goa.” The Returning Officer of Canacona Kedar Naik and the expenditure observer also visited the spot.
