Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi on his 156th birth anniversary on Thursday, presenting a flower garland at Gandhi’s statue and offering prayers with folded hands.
Speaking on the occasion, Sawant highlighted the importance of religious harmony, sharing messages from the Bhagavad Gita, the Bible, and the Quran. He lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives to promote Gandhi’s vision of cleanliness, self-reliance, and service to the community, emphasising the relevance of “Vocal for Local” and self-reliance in today’s times.

Across the nation, Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated with enthusiasm, with political leaders paying tribute to the Father of the Nation. Prime Minister Modi offered floral tributes at Raj Ghat alongside Union Minister Manohar Lal and reflected on Gandhi’s values of courage, service, and compassion in a post on X.
President Draupadi Murmu also paid homage at Rajghat, while Lal Bahadur Shastri was remembered at Vijay Ghat. Leaders called on citizens to continue following the Mahatma’s ideals in building a “Viksit Bharat,” highlighting the enduring impact of his principles on India’s journey toward progress.
