NEW DELHI: Bihar Governor Satya Pal Malik, a former BJP vice-president, was on Tuesday appointed the new governor of Jammu and Kashmir, while his post is filled with BJP’s Lucknow veteran and Atal Behari Vajpaeye’s close aide Lalji Tandon.
Jammu and Kashmir got a politician as the governor after over five decades as the last political leader serving the state as the governor from 1965 to 1967 was Dr Karan Singh, a former ruler of the state.
All these years, either retired bureaucrats or military personnel were made the governors of the state, including the outgoing Narinder Nath Vohra, who has been earlier defence and home secretary.
