Joint inspection of Cutbona jetty today

MARGAO: In view of burning issues such as sewerage flow into the River Sal, sanitation and threat with regard to vector-borne diseases, a joint inspection of concerned authorities will be held at Cutbona jetty, on June 15. 

South Goa Deputy Collector Jyoti Kumari along with the officials of concerned departments such as Fisheries will inspect the jetty, hoping this will help understand all the issues plaguing the jetty. 

Reportedly, a lengthy meeting was held in District Collector office, a few days back. It was expected the authorities to crack the whip with regards to the burning issues of the jetty. 

Earlier, GOACAN along with Velim Civic and Consumer Forum has insisted on an action plan to resolve the issues, including sanitation and sewerage, besides the abandoned vessels. They also insisted that both the short-term and long-term solutions need to be addressed. 

The officials from the Health Department, besides Velim Panchayat and activists, will be joining the joint inspection in order to resolve the issues plaguing the fishing jetty for a very long time. 

It may be noted that every year, the residents of surrounding areas complain about the threat with regard to vector-borne diseases. 

On the other hand, the panchayat has alleged that the Cutbona fishing jetty has been neglected by the Fisheries Department, with all the important issues lying unattended for a very long time.

Reportedly, Sarpanch of Velim Panchayat Savio D’Silva is on record that merely show cause notices will be not enough but a concrete action has to be taken against the scrap vessels, which is needed to be towed away from the jetty.
