Margao: Vehicles coming with fish have started new fish transshipment on the ring road and not at the wholesale fish market. The vehicles are bypassing testing and the fees that need to be paid at the SGPDA wholesale fish market.
The people from Madel assembled at the ring road opening near the old market. They have strongly objected to the misuse of government land by fishermen who have started transhipping and even selling fish at this road. This trade happens between 2 am onwards before the wholesale market opens.
Michael Ferns from Madel asked “This is a question to the government, is this land for the fish sale? You won’t get the good fish here as this is not tested. We need some control to be taken here. We are not against the sale of fish but beyond the designated market areas it is unauthorized.
Madel locals complained about being disturbed by the noise pollution and dumping of waste in the area.
Locals demanded that this unsafe, undisciplined and unauthorised sale of fish be stopped immediately.
