Candle light protests continue in the state demanding justice for Goan girl Siddhi Naik who was declared dead due to drowning at Calangute. Goa has united to fight for justice for goan girl, recently another candle light protest was held at Old Goa.
Hundreds of Goans came out with candles in Old Goa on Sunday evening demanding justice for Siddhi Naik. Speaking at the protest, some of the protestors highlighted how police have tried to divert this case and also delayed the investigation. They alleged that the police had forced the parents to take the body for the final rituals instead of further investigation. Another person at the silent protest questioned women safety in the state and took a dig at the Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant. To hide the failure, the police have started a character assassination of the deceased, which is so cruel and talks volumes of the character of Goa Police itself. Why have these reports been leaked to the selected press? To pressure parents not to pursue the case further? Or not make statements before the media blaming shoddy police probe? they questioned.
The father of the victim, with all good intentions, handed over whatever information he got from his daughters mobile to the police, thinking they would try and get some clue and nab the culprits.
Instead of unearthing the truth, the police started a smear campaign.
Few days ago, father of the victim Sandip Naik, had said that he had given clues to the police but the police are not investigating the case properly. He further urged several leaders and people not to politicise his daughters death rather fight and give her justice. Speaking to reporters, Sandip said that he has given all the resources, clues to police but the police are not acting swiftly, looks like they are under pressure, he further said that he is going almost everyday to the police station to follow up his daughter’s death investigation case. He also went with the police to Baga – calangute coastal area to find a clue.
