VASCO: A juvenile was taken into custody for allegedly sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl from a slum area in Birla Zuarinagar.
According to Vasco DySP Sunita Sawant, the incident occurred in a hutment at Zuarinagar slums on Thursday afternoon.
“As per the complaint filed by the parents of the victim girl, they had gone for work leaving their children at home. The boy who is from the same locality came in the afternoon and shut the door from inside and raped the victim girl,” she said.
“Hearing the sound of slamming door while closing it from inside, a neighbour rushed to the victim’s house and started knocking the door. The minor boy who was present inside opened the door and ran away. In the evening when the parents returned home they were informed about the incident. The complaint was registered by the victim’s family yesterday after which the accused was nabbed. We have detained the boy, produced him before juvenile justice board and he was later lodged at Apna Ghar. The victim girl was also sent for medical examination and her statement has been recorded in the presence of an NGO,” Sawant said.
Police have booked a case under section 452 (criminal trespass), 342 (wrongful confinement), 376 (rape), Section 8 of Goa Children Act and Section 4-8 and 12 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
