PANJIM, MARCH 1
Superintendent of the State-run protective home on Tuesday submitted a report to the Director Women and Child Welfare into the two subsequent escapes of juveniles from Apna Ghar in Merces.
Disciplinary action will follow only after studying the preliminary report, Director Sanjiv Gadkar told Herald.
Apna Ghar is facing constant embarrassment as juveniles housed there often flee from the remand home. The suspected attitude of the staff is said to be one of the reasons resulting in the series of escapes.
“The friendly relation between the remand home staffers and inmates is lacking. This could be one of the reasons for frequent escapes,” Gadkar admitted.
The director had ordered an inquiry into the recent escapes on Saturday. “We will certainly take disciplinary action against Apna Ghar officials depending on the preliminary findings. A detailed inquiry will subsequently follow,” he said.
Official figures reveal that eight juveniles have escaped from this remand home in the last six months. The latest escape in a row was reported on Friday-Saturday, last week, when three boys managed to slip away from Apna Ghar premise.
Two were caught by police later on. One juvenile is believed to be the same who had earlier tried to escape from the home.
